Scripture:
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
Reading:
There is no denying a river. Standing next to a mighty river like the Yellowstone or the lesser known Rivanna River near my home, I could never change their courses. However, whether a man made damn or a beaver’s, a blockage could change how I experience the river.
The same is true for the spiritual blessings that flow from God to His children. Gifts like hope, joy, and peace are continually available for Christ’s followers, but there can be blessing blockers. Their names are unending but typically they share the middle name “unbelief” and end with the surname “sin.”
Every name of Jesus eradicates these blessing blockers. “Prince of Peace” names the wellspring of our souls, the Source of our well-being and welfare. The regal title assures us that Jesus has the authority and power to care for and protect the citizens of His Kingdom (Philippians 3:20).
As an adopted child of God through faith in Christ, Jesus’ peace supernaturally flows like a river to your soul (Isaiah 48:18). Constant. Powerful. Abundant. Lasting peace belongs to Jesus the Prince of Peace, and it is His alone to bestow. Because we are incapable of creating our own peace, Jesus offers us His.
The means of experiencing His peace comes by redirecting your mind to God (Isaiah 26:3). Trusting Jesus and living obediently is the conduit. “If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea.” (Isaiah 48:18)
Jesus, Prince of Peace, reveals Himself to those who obey and depend on Him. Jesus said, “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” (John 14:21) The Amplified Bible translation says, “I will make Myself real to him.”
Immanuel, God with You, cares for you. He is the Good Shephard. Lean into the Prince of Peace. There will be no denying His flow of peace to your soul.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)
Your Turn:
1. What might be blocking the Lord’s flow of peace to your soul? Pour out your heart before the Lord for He is your refuge from these things (Psalm 62:8).
2. After surrendering what is on your heart and mind, tell Jesus why you love Him. Allow His peace to flow to you and fill your soul.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for moving me out of darkness and into Your marvelous light. I surrender what clouds my awareness of You. I confess my unbelief and sin. In their place, I receive Your peace. In the name of the Prince of Peace, I pray. Amen.
