The Door of Life

Scripture:

“I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:9-10)

Reading:

Have you ever had to explain how to use a door? It sounds strange, right? Doors are typically self-explanatory. They serve a clear and obvious purpose - leaving and entering.

There is a door that beckons all to leave more than just a space. There is a door that leads to a more profound relationship than any other.

Twice in the Gospel of John Jesus said, “I am the door.” (John 10:7-10)

With that simple illustration Jesus invites us into something life changing. What is it that Jesus calls every person to leave? Perhaps it is not simply a way out, but a way in. His life is the way in to living the fullest life possible, a life lived interacting with God.

“Come near to God and he will come near to you.” (James 4:8)

We all have stories of leaving and entering spaces and seasons. Maybe you have a story of leaving a life lived without God and being born again into life with Him. Have you ever considered Jesus has a personal testimony about you too? What is your story from His loving perspective?

Whatever those details may be, Jesus knows every moment that has led you to where you are. He is the One who drew you to Himself (John 6:44). He has removed your sin as far as the east is from the west and you are safe in Him (Psalm 103:12, John 10:9).

Psalm 103:2-5 paints a beautiful picture of what this looks like. “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

As you walk through the doors that life presents to you, remember the door that Jesus is—the one that leads you straight into His love and an abundant life.

Your Turn:

  1. What has Jesus Christ brought you out of? What has He brought you into? Look for evidence of His compassion and freedom.

  2. How does John 10:9-10 apply to your story? Thank Jesus for life in Him.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, who is the door through which I enter into eternal life and a relationship with You. Guard me from the schemes of the enemy and guide me always on the path of righteousness into abundant life for Your name's sake. Amen.
