Thoughts

I feared meeting a grizzly the entire hike. The plan was to pull over and admire the waterfall, but my family was not content to simply sightsee. They wanted adventure which meant following a well-worn path to who knows where.

As the tall pines thinned, we found ourselves in a breathtaking canyon. Ancient lava flows towered above while a peaceful river sliced through a pebbled beach. Our kids ran ahead, stuffing their pockets with handfuls of stunning rocks. My young geologists had found treasure and were loading up!

Scripture says that the Word of God is "more desirable than gold — than an abundance of pure gold; and sweeter than honey dripping from a honeycomb." (Psalm 19:10) It renews your mind, empowering you to discern the will of God (Romans 12:2). It is a lamp and a light for your life’s journey (Ps. 119:105).

Your Bible is spiritual treasure revealing eternal truth about all of creation and the dynamics ruling our world. Rushing rivers dry up and ancient mountains crumble, but Jesus promised, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." (Matthew 24:35)

By letting “the word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Colossians 3:16), you will know eternal truth. You will recognize it, you will think it, you will speak it. Paul wrote, "Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true...—dwell on these things." (Philippians 4:8) Jesus said, “If you continue in my word, you really are my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

Your Heavenly Father desires for you to fill more than your pockets with lovely bits of this world. He wants you to saturate your mind with what is true. You are created in His image with the ability to have thoughts reflective of His nature. In fact, He directs you to think about whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable (Phil. 4:8).

Jesus Christ also revealed that the greatest commandment is to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." (Matthew 22:37) All your mind. You are loving God when you fill your thoughts with what is true and reliable - God's Word.

God is your Rock, and His Words are true (Ps. 119:160). His thoughts toward you "outnumber the grains of sand." (Ps. 139:18) Respond in kind like an excited kid, rushing to fill your thoughts with the treasure of His Word. How much better than handfuls of rocks!

Prayer:

Thank You, Heavenly Father, that Your Word is available to me. Please give me a willingness and supernatural ability to fill my mind with Your truth. Help me to treasure it. Jesus Christ is the Word made flesh and it is in His name that I pray. Amen
