Light

Scripture:

“Life was in Him, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, yet the darkness did not overcome it.” (John 1:4-5)

Reading:

“Jesus brought life to the spiritually dead and light to the spiritually darkened.” David Platt

If you have placed your trust in Jesus Christ, His Spirit is bearing the fruit of His light through you. This is God’s desire for all of humanity, His image bearers. God longs to restore spiritual light to His creation that withers in darkness.

Scripture tells us Christ’s light is all that is good, right, and true. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light— for the fruit of the light consists of all goodness, righteousness, and truth-” (Ephesians 5:8-9)

Not only has Christ rescued you from the domain of spiritual darkness, but now you are to live a life that reflects His goodness, righteousness, and truth. And He wants you to keep company with Him in His light by enjoying Him.

We enjoy the Lord and His light through countless ways – scripture, the beauty of creation, prayer, worship to name a handful. Today, simply take a few minutes to think about Jesus. Focus your attention on who He is, what He has done, and His company with you. As you do qualities that come directly from His Spirit will fill your life and emanate from you – qualities of Christ.

As Jesus said, “‘I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.’” (John 8:12)

Your Turn:

  1. Christ is shining on you and in you. How often do you intentionally enjoy Him? Your spiritual life will thrive as you practice living with a loving attention fixed on Christ and His light.

  2. How does the image of Jesus Christ shining as light in the darkness speak to you?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for rescuing me from the domain of darkness and giving me new life in Your light. Please open my mind to understand and my heart to respond to the light of Christ Jesus my Savior. Amen.
