Transformation

Scripture:

“…the servants who had drawn the water knew.” (John 2:9)

Reading:

I lowered myself to my knees. My toddler’s blank expression transformed into a big smile as we met eye to eye. A quick wobble to me and before I knew it her chubby arms wrapped around my neck. Coming down to my child’s level was a joy.

The Son of God did something of the sort for us. “Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity.” (Philippians 2:7) Jesus Christ lived transformed on our level that we might know the power of God’s love.

We see His power come to life in John 2. Jesus was a wedding guest dancing and eating, enjoying life, and welcomed! This was a holy event wholly celebrated - until the hosts ran out of wine.

The wedding in Cana was a community event days longs on the brink of social disaster. It was most definitely an embarrassing situation for the families and could have also resulted in a costly fine.

Mary came to Jesus, not begging or bossing, but confident that He was able to help. She had faith that He knew best and would do what was right. As a result, Jesus transformed water into a superior wine revealing His transformative power. Our Savior loves to cause us joy (Psalm 104:14-15, Galatians 5:22)!

“Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee. He revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.” (John 2:11)

Mary, the disciples, and the servants who served the wine were the only people at the wedding who knew that a miracle had happened. Jesus’ friends knew what He had done. What a drastic shift from faith to seeing, from follower to friend, from working to assisting God in a miracle. This change and renewal is the Lord’s will for all who believe.

“I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from my Father.” (John 15:15)

What a picture of faith and obedience being rewarded! Jesus continues to help us on our level. He bends in your direction continually offering what is best. Are you willing to follow His Word, His will, and His way in return? If so, you are in store for transformation and joy!

Your Turn:

  1. Is there a situation you need to bring to Jesus for transformation? A dryness in your own heart?

  2. Would you like to be a part of a miracle; what God is doing? Ask Jesus for grace to serve on His behalf and do what He tells you.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for being my source of help. Please transform and renew me from the inside out. I want to be Your servant and friend. Amen.
