While spending some much needed “unplugged” time with my family at the beach, my 2 year old son and I were playing in the water. He’s so little, and the waves of the Atlantic are so strong, I refuse to allow him to face the water alone.
He stands with me, looking out at the wondrous waters before him, his wide eyes squinting beneath the brim of his stars and stripes themed sun hat. I hold his hand firmly, and we plant our feet in the sand together as we brace for the crashing waves together. I know that if I let him go, or if he pulled away from me, he would quickly be swept into the strong current of the water, a dangerous situation for a small child.
I think about all the times in my life when I have faced the waves of life crashing into me. The times when I stood firm and held my Heavenly Father’s hand, I did not fall. Then I think to the darkest times of my life, when I pulled away from my Heavenly Father and tried to stand firm on my own. The waves quickly overtook me and I found myself struck down and sucked out into deeper waters, in desperate need of my Father to rescue me.
Have you ever been through a time where you tried to stand by yourself against the crashing waves, telling yourself you could handle it without the strong hand of your Heavenly Father? Have you pulled away from God, and been overcome by the deep waters?
Proverbs 10:25 says, “When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever.”
Know that God is always there standing with you, longing to hold your hand, to stand firm together with you against the waves. If you’ve been overcome and swept into the deep waters, cry out to God and He will be your Rescuer. And once you cry out to Him, and take hold of His strong, guiding hand, don’t ever let go again. Stand firm, hold His hand, and He will help you face the waves of life as they come crashing down.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father and Almighty God, thank you that You are my rescuer. Thank you for saving me. I know that You will help me to stand firm forever against the storms of the enemy. Please help me to seek Your guidance and Your strong hand every day. Amen.
