Partnering with God

Scripture:

“Jesus responded to them, ‘My Father is still working, and I am working also.’” (John 5:17)

Reading:

Jesus partnered with His Heavenly Father. Under the same sunshine we see and air we breathe Jesus instantly did what the Father revealed He was doing.

“Jesus replied, ‘Truly I tell you, the Son is not able to do anything on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, the Son likewise does these things.’” (John 5:19)

Jesus made it clear that not only is He equal to God in authority, but He has power over life and death including eternal judgement (John 5:17-24).

Jesus is God. In his humility He understood his unique role in redeeming humanity (Philippians 2:5-8). Remember that the loving, joyful, peaceful Jesus could not be disproved or destroyed, and only proved His deity over and over, and ultimately by His resurrection.

“For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing, and he will show him greater works than these so that you will be amazed.” (John 5:20)

As Jesus walked about, he paid attention to the people along his path actively looking for opportunities to reveal God’s love and salvation. What was revealed, whether the effect of sin, hunger, physical disability, inner brokenness, or death, Jesus healed.

Believer, you are in Christ and Christ’s Spirit indwells you. He is always at work and wants people to encounter Him through your partnership (Matthew 28:18-20, John 15:5).

Ask the Lord to heal your spiritual eyes and ears to respond to people in your life as if He were you. You have been invited to partner with God in sharing and demonstrating the gospel!

Your Turn:

  1. Pray when you enter a room. Ask the Lord what He is doing and how you can practically join Him in revealing His love and redemption.

  2. Do you lean toward the truth that Jesus wants to work through you or shy away from such a thought? What do you think is most honoring to Jesus?

Prayer:

Father God, thank You for redeeming me. I ask for grace to see with spiritual eyes and listen with spiritual ears. I want to partner with Your Holy Spirit. May I live to honor and glorify You. In Jesus’ powerful name, I pray. Amen.
